Toy library: a look at global experiences and a proposal for establishing a national toy library in Iran

Toy Library is the first research article written in Iran with the aim of introducing the world's toy libraries. An examination of the goals, budget, collection size, services, activities, types of materials, organization methods, rules and regulations, and structures of this institution is included in this study. The source of this report is the websites and portals of 50 existing toy libraries. In this study, the history of the emergence of these libraries, the type of this library organization, and their year of establishment have been carefully studied.

Based on the research conducted, most of these libraries come into being through the cooperation of philanthropists and charitable foundations. Given the spread of this type of library in developed countries and the benefits they have had, they have even been established in Palestinian refugee camps and African countries. These libraries consist of children's books and toys for the age groups that are the target audience of these libraries. The main constituting element of the libraries is play equipment and toys. The main audience of these libraries is also children and adults. Children from a few months of age until before adolescence, and the adult audience consists of educators who work with children, specialists in the field of children, and parents who play with children.

At the end of this study, the question may arise of what toy libraries are for, especially when they appear to have the same functions as kindergartens. The answer to this question becomes clear by drawing a boundary between kindergartens and toy libraries and identifying the differences between them. In this study, important reasons for the necessity of establishing these libraries are listed.
