The current state of Iran's animation industry

Among the most important requirements for formulating industry development strategies is understanding the structure of the industry's value chain. The animation industry's value chain comprises a set of activities in which raw materials are combined with art and skill and, at each stage, value is added to the animation product relative to the previous stage.
The aim of writing this book is to identify the primary and supporting activities of the animation industry in the structure of the industry's value chain. Primary activities are those that directly constitute the stages of producing an animation product. For each of the primary activities to be carried out properly, infrastructures and foundations must be in place; these are called supporting activities. The arrangement and sequential order of these activities constitute the industry's value chain. If the overall goal of all activities and value links is to have a dynamic, creative, profitable, and competitive industry, then first the quantity and quality of performing each of the activities must meet acceptable and appropriate conditions.
Therefore, in order to become more familiar with how animation products are produced and also to identify the gaps and challenges of the country's animation industry in each of the activities, the animation industry's value chain has been examined and analyzed as one of the supporting studies for the "Strategic Document of the Country's Animation Industry."
In the first chapter of the book, a brief account of the foundations of the value chain is presented. In the second chapter, the primary and supporting activities of the animation industry are introduced, and in the third chapter the current situation and the gap between the country's animation industry and the desired state in each of the activities and links of the value chain are set out.
Because of the lack of suitable information and statistical databases in animation, a questionnaire was prepared and experts' views were used in order to identify challenges and gaps. In selecting the experts, an effort was made to take into account an appropriate range of all specialties and professions in the industry. It is hoped that the results presented in this book can be considered a source for understanding the structure of the country's animation industry.
The present book is the fourth volume in the series of books on Iran's animation industry, written with the aim of explaining the structure of the animation industry's value chain.
